Reuben College was established in May 2019 as Oxford University's 39th college, and is named in recognition of a landmark gift from the Reuben Foundation. The College is dedicated to graduate study with a focus on interdisciplinary research addressing 21st century challenges.
Its inaugural president is Professor Lord (Lionel) Tarassenko.
Reuben College was founded to help meet the University of Oxford's need to accommodate a growing demand for more graduate students, who are the engines behind Oxford's research success. The College is dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary exchange within an inclusive, innovative, and impact-oriented community. It intends to provide a scholarly home where students will thrive in an environment driven by collaborative working and intellectual discovery.
College life is built on a rich programme of academic activity designed to encourage innovative thinking on some of the big challenges of the future. A strong entrepreneurial spirit runs through the College, and our diverse fellowship bring skills and expertise to support college members with advancing their research impacts, engaging with the public, and developing communications initiatives to connect with the wider world.
The college is located near the Oxford city centre, in the heart of the University Science Area and housed in stunning, architecturally-renowned buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including the Grade-II-listed Jackson and Worthington buildings, and the Abbot’s Kitchen, which is modelled upon the 14th-century octagonal Abbot’s Kitchen at Glastonbury Abbey.
As this is a new college, there is an exciting opportunity for students to play a vital role in shaping the Reuben College ethos and the activities that support it.
